We are excited to share with you the entries to the 2016 clothes free poetry contest. This year, the theme is “The Body as Poetry.”

A number of first-time writers dove into this opportunity heart-first. As you read through, you’ll encounter shares around the freedom and joy of clothes freedom as well a great deal of vulnerability, strength and healing. I, myself, was quite taken by the level of nakedness of the soul expressed in these pieces.

I invite you to settle in and take your time reading through these offerings in the 2016 clothes free poetry contest. Click on the title of each poem to see the full text and register your vote.  Voting is open through April 30, 2016.

Each of these pieces is a delicate work of art. Therefore, consistent with CFL site guidelines, any inappropriate or offensive commentary will be removed. Thank you for respecting the gifts of these writers. Enjoy!

“Summer” by Scott Redcloud

“Summer” by Scott Redcloud My body, sun kissed in summer’s heat radiating aura, bittersweet. Stepped in the water now underwater Oh I feel complete.

“Our first visit to a nudist resort” by Bill Dougherty

“Our first visit to a nudist resort” by Bill Dougherty The “Fern” has become a second home to me, It’s a place we can be totally free. We took a cycle ride one day, As we pulled up to the gate I turned to say. Should we go or should we investigate, If you want to turn away it’s not too late. She said I’m kind of shy, But why not give it a try. We stopped at the office to check in, There sat a lady wearing nothing but a grin. She told us what to expect, And then we hopped on the golf cart to go check. She took us around the facilities for a tour, And was told about the big supper at four. There were naked people playing pickle ball, That’s something I’ve never seen at all. We saw naked people sitting on decks, Keeping their alcohol consumption in check. There is a restaurant for all to eat, Beside the pool to cool off from the heat. The pool is …

“Escaping” by Moniqua

“Escaping” by Moniqua In the shadows I hide, So no one can see me. I’m afraid of what’s inside, For it’s itching to cross the boundary. I’m not afraid of what people will think, Because they don’t know me. Sometimes my heart sinks, Because they don’t know me. I build up this wall, To keep feelings in and love out. I can’t make a dent at all, Even when I scream and shout. Some see me through the cracks, Like the have X-ray vision, Some attempt to bulldoze and hack, To try to force my decision. I would rather hide behind fear, Because it provides great shelter, The walls can no longer bare, As stones begin to pelter. One day I looked in the mirror, Standing glowingly naked. I no longer felt inferior, And I could no longer fake it. I came to realize, With the skin I was in. There were no more lies, For freedom comes from within.

“On Body Hair” by jochanaan

“On Body Hair” by jochanaan Outside in open air I feel my hair waving Under clothes I don’t feel it but when I free myself it rejoices with me The hairs on my arms like the sun My head hair and beard wag in the breeze My leg hairs like the wind from my walking My underarm tuft sends a kind rush of cool to my sweaty skin Even my pubic hair waves in the wind Once when I had to shave my face hated the raw wind But now my beard loves the cold breezes I’ll never cut or raze since I love how all my hair waves in the wind

“Body naked respect” by Martin Belcher

“Body naked respect”  by Martin Belcher I love my body without clothes But in my life, I have had body lows Being naked has shown me respect To love, cherish and hold dear what is mine My health condition has damaged my spine And I still love my body and won’t draw a line At taking my clothes off in front of a mirror My body is different and also the same When naked we are all similar despite Nationality, creed, religion, colour or money Take off your clothes, relax even when it’s not sunny!

“Release” by Misty Gish

“Release” by Misty Gish Dough waiting for the fire It’s how I feel When my skin meets sun. Lighting strikes across my chest With white, stretched fingers Memories of growth long past But I am an ever progressing project With or without The confine Of cotton And linen.

“Solar Angel” by Anthony Crowley

“Solar Angel” by Anthony Crowley Awakening of the sun embracing the soft innocence of skin freedom like a bird in flight I hear the call of the natural wind The evolution of all mankind My temple of skin my fortress, my soul the naked prince upon the land wings that evade a victimise fall Stronger and stronger my world is my sun Born this way for my freedom I am who I am a naked soul population We are one in this world This is our clothes free nation Winters they fade Hypnotised sun hanging above the natural throne worshipping the protective skin hibernating from fear of some cherishing the normality within We are born naked I’m an angel, this isn’t a sin ©Anthony Crowley 2016

“Navigate” by Isaac

“Navigate” by Isaac 21.5 years round the sun and your vessel is searching for its North Star crashing on the sharp peaks of your hips that soften on the lichen-clung saltscapes ‘tween thighs navigating the textured map of flattened hills of your bound breasts and the thorns of your aching spine. 7.5 years round the sun since your maiden voyage was first soiled by his brine a sea captain far too old, didn’t care about your young siren’s cries, twas you who was off course for years; ripping up the boards of your shipwreck with its own crooked nails, pulling at your hair like dry kelp off the beach. 1.5 years round the sun since your limbs were kindling– a self-sacrificial fire doused with the gasoline of the traffic that swerved around you but your heart was a Phoenix the dark veins in your wrists, the eyelashes that fell with tears were merely the ashes you rose from. 21.5 years round the sun and your skin is no longer a prison– the shackles are …

“The Body as Poetry” by Bex

“The Body as Poetry” by Bex I am light and unbound energy I am breath and space and sky I am that which was created by that which I first created I am light and I am breath I am life and I am death You need to know you are whole and there is no need for healing There is no wound Leave that yoke to the ox You are destined to all You are it and complete and whole You love and you are love Be love Just be love. Just be love. Just be love. Just be love. Just be love. Just be love. Just be love. I am the giver. Of life, love. Just be.

“Warmth Of The Naked Sun” by David yyz

“Warmth Of The Naked Sun” by David yyz The sun shines clearly My body is naked, free My soul flies unbound Sun on my elbows Sun on my knees, face, feet, toes Sun on my backside SPF 30 Safe to get vitamin D All over, right here We gather all here By the beach our bodies float Our spirits do soar The sun moves on down We cool as day’s end draws near Nude all day, naked all night
