Societies Moral Compass – nudity

In the united states it’s generally believed, as evidenced by our laws, the media, and public reaction, that certain parts of the anatomy should be covered when in public. Those being the female nipples, genitalia of all sexes, and the anus. There is debate, some shaming, a few laws, and a lot of discourse over the visibility of some other body parts such as various amounts of female cleavage and the buttocks of either sex.

Why? Of all the reasons I hear I have yet to hear one that makes logical sense. A body is a body and to legally require it’s covering makes no sense with the exception of health related reasons such as food service jobs, public seating etc. The only reason certain parts of the body are stigmatized is, in my opinion, a result of cultural brain washing.
